ROSEMARY LAVENDER BODY SCRUB
A few years ago, I started opting out of store bought body scrubs after realizing how cheaply made they were and the ease of making them at home. Over the years I have tried a variation of many different oils, herbs, and scents but I always find myself coming back to some kind of combination that includes lavender.
Since fall is upon us, I have already started to feel my skin dry out so about once a week I make a body scrub. I like to use a combination of raw sugar and Epsom salt, because Epsom salt by itself is very rough on my sensitive skin even though it has incredible benefits. If you don’t have sensitive skin feel free to just substitute the raw sugar with more Epsom salt. Upon making this scrub feel free to make a bigger batch because it will stay good for weeks at a time as long as it is kept in an airtight container.
Lavender is my favorite scent and reminds me of my childhood since my mom, who is not a fan of many scents, did love lavender and most of her products were either scentless or lavender. So when I smell it, I think back to the special times we had together and it has now become my favorite. Another ingredient I like to use is Rosemary, which is my go-to herb right now! I have been adding it to my chicken, shampoo, popcorn, and basically anything I think might taste or smell good with it. For this recipe, I thought why not combine two of my favorite essences for a refreshing, yet calming body scrub!
Lavender is known for its calming affect and Rosemary helps with alertness— combine these two ingredients and not only do they smell fantastic, but studies have proven that the combination has many benefits such as aiding mood boosts, assisting with memory, helping anxiety, and decreasing sadness. Another ingredient in this recipe is Epsom salt which, when absorbed through the skin, can relieve tension, pain, and inflammation in muscles and joints. I have a link below the ingredients with the Epsom salt I use.
Rosemary Lavender Body Scrub:
¼ Cup Epsom Salt :
½ Cup Raw Sugar
3 TBS Avocado or Coconut Oil
3- 5 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (optional for stronger scent)
3- 5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
4 stems Lavender Flower
1 bundle Rosemary
Combine all ingredients in bowl; mix with fork and then place in a sealable jar. While showering rub over entire body and let sit for 5 minutes to allow the oils and Epsom salt to absorb. Then wash off. Lotion is not needed, but feel free to apply for extra hydration. Repeat 1 to 2 times a week.
