My Yoga

Since yoga has become such a big part of my life I thought I would write a little about how I got into it and what has kept me coming back to my mat time after time.

My first Yoga class ever was in high school at a YMC gym, I thought it was horrible and boring and basically never wanted to go again, so for years I never tried another yoga class.  Then a few years later, while I was in college, I tried yoga again and I was hooked! I joined a hot yoga studio and watched as my body transformed and my stress melted away. That was about 5 years ago. Now I am a certified yoga instructor and teach 3+ classes a week.

There were two things I noticed really impacted my practice, I began teaching more frequently and I made a space in our apartment that was just for my yoga.  Even after I was certified I was just teaching on call, during this time I felt a little discouraged and lost a bit of interest in Yoga after putting a lot of hard work and time into getting certified.  When I was asked to start teaching a few permanent classes I was thrilled and crazy nervous which caused me to throw myself right back into my practice. Trying to decide what to teach ensured I was practicing almost everyday!

Having my own room for yoga was a huge game changer for my practice. I was flowing in our living room, which if you know our apartment I was right next to our amazing but very sharp coffee table.  I was nervous about going upside down or any balancing that I could fall. I also just love leaving my mat out and hopping on whenever I can which wasn’t super practical when it was in the living room.  Having my own space helped me get a little more adventurous in my practice which led to me having more fun making me want to practice even more.
